City of Arts and Sciences | Santiago Calatrava, Félix Candela | 1998 This series explores the City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia, designed by architect Santiago Calatrava, as an abstract language of light, shadow and form. Shot from unconventional angles and stripped of colour, the structures become almost otherworldly, with monumental curves, sharp lines and repeating patterns dissolving into deep black. Concrete appears sculptural, with geometric forms and dramatic shadows defining each composition. Rather than documenting the buildings, these photographs reveal their emotional and graphic qualities, transforming architecture into shape, rhythm and light.
